When at last you learn that you are defective
That there is something missing in you
And the thing that never was has made sure that it never will be
It’s as though the constellations have shifted
No north star in the sky to point to
Though the shock of it is new, it has always been with you
In a basket she floated down to the riverbank of his bed
Into the mist where nothing can be seen
And the only thing that you can hear is a scream
He heard her moan as she was sleeping beside him
He whispered calming words in her ear
And she though still asleep raised her face to his to be closer
He felt this stranger had been with him forever
Her death somehow he knew would be his
For freedom he had lived, but now that was over
Making love and sleeping with are two different things
The first he knew, but the second was so new
And each time he betrayed her he knew that he would make her scream
She had reached her goal, but she felt ashamed
She had always wanted him to be old
Once he was weak and old, he’d no longer be stronger
How horrible that we can dream ahead
To the death of even those that we love
Did he once love someone else? It no longer mattered
In an old truck, driving high up, now watch them fall
Into the mist where nothing can be seen
And the only thing that you can hear is a scream
Oh, yes, the heavier the burden, the closer
The closer that our lives come to earth
The more truthful we can be, the more real we can become
With no burden we are lighter than air
And soaring we take leave of this world
As insignificant as we are free
As insignificant as we are free
As insignificant as we are free
As insignificant as we are free
As insignificant as we are free
