I’M NOT A CASUALTY OF LOVE

I’m not a casualty of love
There’s nothing love can’t rise above
Only love can break your heart
So while you’re gone I’ll do my part
You loved so much, so much you gave
I miss your touch, you were so brave

Even the best of friends must part
In losing love there is an art
Though solitude’s not well thought of
No imitation of my love
Though much is gone, so much remains
For me to do here in your name

I heard an orphan child pray
A little love goes a long way
So with each and every day
My debt to you I will repay
As we tagged along, you made us strong
So your simple song I will pass along

I’ll pay it forward if I can
It’s more a feeling than a plan
A lease of time and what’s on hand
To be for you a better man
If I fall I’m taking you with me
But why fall if you’re still with me?

We are only passing through
Yet you are me and I am you
So what is there to do
If I cannot be with you?
Though we all end where lillies grow
Let’s act as though we never know

It’s not a burden or a cross
To honor what we’ve lost
And maybe not a loss at all
If we can lift up some who fall
Love’s ebb and flow no one controls
So why hold tight? Just let it go

It’s all a child knows how to do
So I’ll remain a child for you
Loving the things you taught me to
And in that world I am with you
They say love always finds a way
The trick: Don’t ask, give it away

So where goes love when it is gone?
Does it not somehow still live on?
I say it does. Now come along
If not why would we sing this song?
The words “if” and “fate” once made me fear
What might be lost and never here
But cheer up, look up, and you will see
There’s still so much of you in me
I’m not a casualty of love
