At midnight waking, I thought I heard someone cry
Had I been weeping? But my face was still dry
I could have died there, but woke up just in time
But still I’m sleepy and to sleep is divine

I pretend I’m sleeping when I no longer am
Pretend I’m waking, but that’s not really my plan

I agree completly when evolution or God, says
“Take it easy,” But it’s a serious job
If you cut corners, you will be sleep-deprived
Overdo it? Well, I guess you’ll survive

To be balanced, take your rest and dream on
Because without it, the day is too long
Sleep is my lover where I’m safe from all hate
Just five more minutes, it’s okay if I’m late

If I’m losing an hour or two
Of daylight, well, what’s that to you?
In the long run, I suppose it builds up
And will bite me by the time my time’s up
