BREAKING THROUGH

Every now and then I get a glimpse of something new and what I might be
Of what we could all be if we were free to be ourselves and we could all see
As I’m growing to become whatever else I may become, sometimes I fear it
What it is that I become I cannot say until it’s done, till then I’ll dream it
In a way it’s always night as we search blindly
For why else would we need light so desperately tonight as darkness falls?
As darkness falls

Driven to the point where every compass points to me, I’m at a crossroads
In my knowledge and my faith and in my music where I’m safe, I speak to all souls
When I am breaking through it’s not a phase I’m going through, it’s more a passage
To be the man I am and, yes, to play the best I can to serve a message
In a way it’s always night as we search blindly
For why else would we need light so desperately tonight as darkness falls?
As darkness falls

You’ve got nothing here to gain and you’ve got everything to lose, so say the fearful
Who will never know what’s real once they’ve become too scared to feel, they can’t be cheerful
And lacking in good cheer, they have no ear with which to hear what might give pleasure
And lacking in pure joy they cannot help but to destroy the unknown treasure
In a way it’s always night as we search blindly
For why else would we need light so desperately tonight as darkness falls?
As darkness falls

Two rights can make a wrong if it repeats the same old song when new is needed
Each form of music’s understood not by it doing what it should but what’s completed
The best of jazz to life applies for it is best when improvised, then you can feel it
When you hit a sour note there’s still a way to make it float if you can heal it
In a way it’s always night as we search blindly
For why else would we need light so desperately tonight as darkness falls?
As darkness falls

When I’m breaking through to you
