EMPTY THE EMPTINESS

Yeah… (Farfiddler)

Probably from the start to the end it is mostly confusion
Never knowing for sure who we are
Chasing some meaning in life, some feeling, some hunger
That makes you get up and want more and then takes it away
Oh, this endless consciousness
Flitting and flirting and flowing and flying through me
When peace comes to stay in its inevitable, indifferent way
I’ll tip my hat and I will say, “You win. Take it away!”

From the erotic, hypnotic, narcotic, chaotic beginning
To the final catastrophic stop
Seldom if ever did I have a clue which way to turn
Seldom if ever did I feel I was really here
Oh, but that didn’t stop me
In those moments of brief and relative clarity
From assuring you all I was as good as St. Paul
Perfectly too good to ever fall

Empty the darkness, the shadows, the longing, the emptiness
The clouds of their rain, the sun of its light
Empty the corners, the houses, the attics, the stars at night
Empty the light of the moon that once mothered me
Empty this endless consciousness
This endless awareness of what I might never be
When it all comes to pass
When there are far younger faces on cash
I will have loved it to the last
