STORY

Don Quixote and Pancho, Little Dorothy and her Toto
We thank you all for coming here
Lancelot, thanks a lot, Camelot is so much closer
Your tale was just what we needed to hear
When I’m tired of the strain and the strife
Tell me a story and it seems I come right back to life

Give me a make-believe friend
I prefer the kind that helps me to forget the friends I thought I had
Give me a lover who’s true
Who will help me to discover the thing I’ve always been dreaming of
I forget sometimes just where I am
And by the time I’m back it’s time to fly again

Okay, instrumental, why not?
Round off those square corners for me, would you?
Show me the Golden Mean, or at least the means to appreciate it

If my story isn’t quite good enough
May I borrow one with all the right stuff?

Best of all, Annie Hall, they say comedy’s the hardest of all
The harder they come, they fall
And when it’s time to get down, I know the tears I cry in your world are real
Even though the story’s not mine

If it’s been a while since I laughed or I cried
Tell me a story that makes me feel something inside
Maybe I can still find out what I’m missing
Light a candle
I will read all through the night
Tell me was it Hamlet who said
“To be, to be, or not to be?”
What a question to be asked in the night!

I said I can’t understand more than twenty percent what that guy was trying to say to me
And yet it haunts me like a ghost both day and night
And when the answer finally came, it was more like a dream
And for a moment in time I was a man unafraid
