Here’s a little story
Of whimsy and of glory
Listen as we tell the story
For those who take delight
In wisteria and sunlight
A castle by the sea
Made for you and me
Let furnished for the month
Of April if you wish

For a chance to come alive
But we’re not supposed to
We should stay at home to
Take care of our husband’s boredom
No, we should not go there
Life is always elsewhere
Take care of our husband’s boredom
I am Mrs. Winch
But I’ve never liked my name
It’s such an ugly name
Isn’t it a shame!
I have seen you at the church
But I’ve never said hello
Did you see the ad below?
Don’t you want to go?
But we have no money
How can we can afford it?
There’s no way that we can go there
Unless we were to share it
Really? Shall we dare it?
Two more making four we might go there
So Mrs. Winch and Mrs. Finch
Madame Stone and Lady Joan
Each decided on their own
To leave their men alone
To the south of France they went
And on down to Italy
For a month of revelry
In a castle by the sea
I’ve never been so happy
Is it really real here?
The gods are surely watching over us
The flowers in the garden
It’s really such a bargain
Imagine if our husbands joined us
So that evening they discussed
“Since there’s just the four of us
Could we ask our husbands here
To add to the good cheer?”
Telegrams were quickly sent
And within just a few days
The answer came right back:
The men were on their way
The Madonna found her smile
Though it took a while
For the landlord who had lost his glasses
The husbands were won over
Though some of them were slower
To glimpse a falling star and catch it
Now they ask themselves sometimes
How would life have ever been
Had they not been taken in
By an unexpected whim
A castle by the sea
Made for you and me
Write Box 835
For a chance to come alive
Yes, we’re on our way there
Yes, we’re on our way there
Yes, we’re on our way there now
